High school itself is very stressful. Once you add extracurriculars, jobs, family life, Honors and AP classes, life can seem overwhelming. One way to combat this feeling of being overwhelmed is by having good time management. I’m taking my first AP class, AP World History, this year, and one thing I’ve learned is to not procrastinate and even when you don’t feel motivated, still try to get some work done. Be sure to schedule some free time occasionally though.

Keeping a planner updated is helpful, and crossing things off once they’re done is therapeutic. Even without advanced classes, it’s easy to catch yourself falling behind in school. If you’re struggling with a particular class, it’s always a great idea to talk to your teacher for help, and maybe even ask for an extension. Teachers won’t have a problem helping you out, especially if you take the responsibility of reaching out to them. If you’re really struggling with a certain subject, it’s even possible to talk to an old teacher, as they’ll more than likely be willing to help you out.

Be sure to get enough rest because sleeping all night is way more beneficial than staying up to study, and most of all, know and be be willing to admit to your limits, don’t overload your classes, work, and activities, but if you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, be sure to talk with someone you trust who might be able to give you advice or guidance. High school is rough occasionally, but with a great support system, time management skills, and adequate rest, you’ll be able to survive with a lot less stress.
