September sports roundup

When it came to sports and activities, September saw a lot of them. There was a total of more than 50 Bartlett High School events that happened in the first full month back to school.
Here are some of the highlights:
The varsity football team defeated the Colony Knights, 59-40 on September 1 in a Homecoming game that positioned the Chugach Conference’s top two teams against each other. Senior Hunter Cargill had 291 yards of rushing, and Elijah Lear had 191 yards with six touchdowns. Defensively, the Bears recorded 12 tackles for loss, two sacks, and an interception.
The volleyball team defeated Chugiak on September 12, taking three sets and losing two. Honey Togaga’e led the team with 12 kills, and Violet Togaga’e chipped in 11 of her own.
The swim team had a meet at Service on September 18. The girls team finished third, and the boys took fourth place. Tempest Willequer finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke, and Tylyn Bushman had a second-place finish in the 100-yard breastroke to boost the girls’ team.
On September 20, the tennis team posted a 7-2 victory over East getting wins in girls’ singles from Abby Walosin and Diana Moua. In boys’ doubles, Ryan Pogue and Ben Roberts found a win, and in mixed doubles, the duo of Trey Suber and Choua Her were victorious.
The flag football team had six games slated for September, but managed a bit win over Eagle River at the end of August. Senior Kara Predmore said by the end of September the team was really starting to get better.
The cross country team hosted the Big 8 Region Invite in the middle of the month and will host the state meet this Saturday, the 29 at 10 a.m.
